The guys at Automattic are real developers

11 August 2006 14:44 pm

I mean, it's not like we didn't know this already but the guys over at Automattic, the company spawned by Matt Mullenweg, the guy behind WordPress really are nerdy developers.

How do I know this? I was blogging on my WordPress.com hosted blog this morning which has an auto save feature that saves what you have written every minute so you don't loose your work should something happen.

The problem is that when it auto saves it moves the cursor to the start of the box so you suddenly end up typing the second half of your sentence at the start of the entire post.

How bug allow me to reach my conclusion then? Because I saw in that something that I see in myself and the developers I personally know.

There clearly hasn't been that much testing put into it, it's a really annoying bug and is very noticable when you're blogging and maybe it only affects certain browser setups but I bet most of the people on the team use Firefox.

That's the sign of a really nerdy developer - we don't want to test, make sure everything works, fix bugs. We just want to roll out exciting new features.

So rest assured that while a bug or two may appear in WordPress.com, it is safely in the hands of a big bunch of nerds that really care about the technology.
