WordPress 1.5.2

Despite the fact I spent a lot of time playing around with web scripts, blogging scripts isn't something I have played around with that much. But that isn't to say I haven't played around with any, I have used several and they are all good in their own way. Especially WordPress.

It's a decent size to download and upload to your web server. Installation is pretty much standard (I dislike the "famous 5 minute install" because almost all popular scripts have that or they wouldn't be popular), you just open up the config file in a text editor, enter your database details and then go through the installer on your web server.

It looks great. You don't have to do anything, just the standard install and it looks great. That said, if you want something different than the standard, you have to go hunting for other templates and editing the existing onces is a little tricky, not as easy as the other scripts I have played with but there is an editor in the admin panel which most other software lacks.

Posting is easy enough, it only has one box and will automatically generate the break point for you for archives and such, something which I much prefer to having to split your post over two boxes but then that is another feature which a lot of people like so weigh up what you want before picking your script.

Permalinks are easy to set up and WordPress produces some good static URLs by default which you can set up from the admin panel. It has some customisation here although as for the general look of the site and how things are laid out, you have to really dive in to the code of the templates to make any changes.
